About Caitlin Durkin

Hi, I’m Caitlin!

I am a young professional currently working as a bilingual recruiter. I graduated with with a BS degree with dual majors in international business and management. I also hold a BA degree in Spanish language. I can’t wait to take all that I have learned into the so called real world to experience, share, and grow.

I have discovered that I am passionate about people and our lives and how we choose to live. I find it fascinating and valuable, which is why I chose to write the Bold Spirit, to encourage everyone to live with a bolder mentality—to bring courage, confidence, creativity, passion and purpose into their lives. Because really, life is too important to let the lack of these things hold us back from our dreams.

I love to learn and to share what I have learned with others. I enjoy reading, writing, and crafting and all together being creative. I love learning about foreign cultures and travelling—I even spent a semester abroad in Bilbao, Spain where I had some the greatest adventures of my life so far, including travelling for three weeks through Spain, England and Scotland BY MYSELF! I cannot wait for the day I can go back!

I appreciate your interest in my blog and my thoughts. I’m learning to live with a Bold Spirit and I wish to share what I learn with you. Join me in creating a better, bolder world!

  1. Great job on the video, Caitlin! You should be very proud of the work you have done here. I work for Parkview Health in Ft Wayne Indiana, and read Bret Simmons blog today about your tremendous courage. Last year, at 52 years of age, I took a trip to Nepal and India with Habitat for Humanity, and then wrote a book about it. I waited my entire life to step out in boldness and jump outside of my comfort zone, and I have never looked back since. You are on the right track in life, Caitlin, and should be very proud of ourself. You go, girl!!!

    • Thank you very much! I used to consider myself very shy and timid, especially in high school. College has helped to bring out my bolder side, but like you, travelling was what really boosted it. I studied abroad to Spain and then at the end of the program travelled for three weeks ALONE through Spain, England, Scotland. The best experience I’ve had so far. Your trip to Nepal and India inspires me! I recently learned of an opportunity to volunteer in Peru (somewhere I’d LOVE to see) and am now weighing my options there.

I appreciate the support and encouragement! Congrats on your book, too! And you make an excellent point, it’s never to late to start living boldly.

  2. Hey Caitlin! So I was on a plane a couple weeks ago flipping through one of those really terrible airline magazines, and I stumbled upon a quote that made me immediately think of your blog. I wrote it down and kept meaning to share it with you… so here it is:

“Being bold makes you more creative, expands your realm of experience, and turns you into a more interesting person- all things that bring on success” -Heidi Grant Halvorson, author of Succeed

Thought you might like that 🙂

    • That’s an excellent quote, Kati! Thank you. I have actually been trying to locate “bold” quotes for the blog and haven’t had muchtime to do so. I will add this one to the “quotes” page! I appreciate you taking the time to think of my blog like that and to share it with me. I love your blog and what you write about–when the semester ends I may actually be able to start commenting again and posting new posts to my own!

      Good luck with finals!
